Why aren't y'all celebrating Christmas today?

Is this Jesus Christ’s birthday?

Perhaps we should deck the halls with boughs of spring flowers, because an English astronomer suggested that Jesus might have been born on September 15, 7 BCE. Dr David Hughes, of Sheffield University, argued that September 15 is the real Christmas for the following reasons:

In the Gospel of St Luke we read that Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem because "... there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, every one in his own city" (Luke 2:1,2). Such a decree occurred about 8 BCE.

King Herod (Herod the Great) was so infuriated that a rival had been born (the ‘King of the Jews’) that he ordered the massacre of all baby boys in Israel, but Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt. They stayed there for two years until Herod’s death, said to have closely followed a lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses occurred in 4 BCE and 1 BCE.

The distinctive astronomical phenomenon that happened between 8 BCE and 1 BCE, that could be equated with the Star of Bethlehem, is the conjunction of the giant planet Jupiter with Saturn in the constellation of Pisces (considered the Zodiacal sign of the Jews). This began on May 27, 7 BCE and continued for some months – long enough for the three wise men (astrologers) to follow the phenomenon cross country ...

Why aren't y'all celebrating Christmas today?
Jesus is lore.

Celebrating X-Mas on December 25th is as good as any other date. Not much going on then anyway.

But I get your point.
Reply:Careful, now--someone might start looking into Saturnalia or something... :D
Reply:Because Its Not Christmas Thats Why.
Reply:I don't celebrate Christmas. It is a pagan holiday that was around before the birth of Jesus Christ
Reply:Uh, September is in the autumn, not the spring, in the Northern Hemisphere.

I still don't see where the September 15th date came from.
Reply:Your dates dont concure, besides that, the three wise men visited jesus before herods death
Reply:okay then...Merry Christmas!
Reply:Christmas is celebrated on December 25th because that used to be the time of Yule (it is now around December 21st). Christianity combined Yuletide items--particularly the "Christmas tree"--to overshadow the Pagan celebration.

I need Christmas gift ideas for my girlfriend?

By the time christmas gets here, me and my girlfriend will have been dating for 6 months. I want to do something pretty big for her. I love christmas, I love giving gifts and making people smile, and I want to make this girl smile more than she ever has in her entire life. Only dilema is... I have NO ideas on what to do for her or get her. She's 15 (btw, so nothing too overbored here). I want to get something nice, I have a job so I don't have much of a budget here, as long as it isn't too overboard. For her birthday (which was last month) I got her a bracelet and flowers. Well for christmas I want to get something mind blowing and something she'll like, so I need suggestions here. I know you're all thinking "well you know her better than we do" and that's true, but I honestly have a complete blank mind right now, I really don't know what to do for her. So please ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. =]

I got one for my boyfriend and he loved it. You can write all kinds of funny stuff. My boyfriend thought it was super cute, .the "Think of me when you're feeling dirty" soap was the one he loved the most.
Reply:give her a gift basket.
Reply:well every girl loves tiffanys and get her a neckles and ingrave your and her name in it
Reply:try a pretty necklace or earrings (or a matching set!!!) or her favorite perfume (try a gift set that comes w/ lotion and stuff)
Reply:Buying the right gift, one that will cause your girlfriend to think WOW! is always difficult. We do not always know what a girl really wants.

I found that the best way to get my girlfriend great gifts, was to get her to create a list on YouCouldGetme.com.

That way I know what kind of things she will like, and it keeps me from making major mistakes.

You don't want to be in trouble on her birthday! Or at Christmas…

Does she really need space or is she letting me down easy?

Was seeing a girl for a month. Think she got out of a few relationships in succession and soon started dating me. We went fast and think she got scared. She said the timing wasn't right and that it would be better in a few months so she needed space/time to herself, hang with her friends, (and probably date some). I asked if we could still hang out some and she said yes, b/c I make her laugh. We communicated well, she seemed relieved, and we kissed at the end of the night. So, we hung out some a week 1/2 later with others too and then nearly 3 weeks ago I texted her and she texted back in 20 mins. Since then, I haven't called/texted/emailed her and she hasn't either. I want to give her space and have been playing it cool but really care about her and it's driving me mad! Do I wait until she gets in touch with me and if not, let it go? Do I call her in a week or two? Do I wait to hear from her and if not, call her on her birthday in a little over a month or email/send her flowers?

Does she really need space or is she letting me down easy?
It's nice you are being sensitive, but she could be waiting for traditional contacts. She was showing an interest in you, so I would check that out if you want to. However, the space and timing sound like an exit strategy to me.

It may be that she is/was interested, but is not ready to go for it. She may be dealing with an ex and still upset.

Calling her?. It couldn't hurt to call and check on how she is doing. Certainly a happy birthday call would cheer her up. I'd maintain contact, just make sure you respect her when she doesn't feel like talking.

When she is feeling better, she'll remember how nice you've been to her and start looking there. Just don't smother her in the mean-time.
Reply:Sounds like this girl is going through somewhat of an emotional roller coaster. Sounds like she has no idea what she wants. Give her some space. She'll come around when she needs too. After a while try again, and see what happens. First, though, respect her and give her the space she obviously needs.
Reply:I would say no to the flowers. That seems like it would put pressure on an already sensitive relationship. My opinion is that sending a weekly email or text message shows you still care about her, but are NOT invading her space. It also leaves communication open so that she can let you know if she has changed her mind and wants to be with you more often.

I need some advice on what to get a girl...?

Alright, well I have this friend and recently we found out that we like each other. The problem is, she has a BF. She doesn't want to jump right in to a relationship so we are going to see what happens.

But my question is about a gift. Her birthday is coming up pretty soon and I wanted to get her something. I figured flowers would be nice.. and also a card and maybe a game of putt putt or something like that. My problem that I am having though is the boyfriend. If I get her flowers, what if he sees them at her house? I don't want it to cause any trouble. Also, I don't know what her parents would think of it. Her mom I am sure would be perfectly fine with it, but I don't know how her father will react. Should I still get them?

And frankly, I'm not really sure what flowers would be most appropriate. I was told not to do roses. I was also told roses are fine as long as they aren't red. Any suggestions on the kind of flowers that would be nice would be much appreciated.

I need some advice on what to get a girl...?
Don't get her flowers. Flowers are so un-original. The game of miniature golf sounded sweet and romantic. Flowers aren't needed. If you really wanted to warm her heart, get her a piece of jewelry that is her favorite color. Not expensive, just a token of how much you like her and listen to her. Girls love jewelry but they especially like to know that their interests are being recognized and appreciated. OOOO!!! Don't forget the cute wrapping paper/bag and the heartfelt card. The card is really important too.
Reply:The important thing when buying a gift is to take the time to buy something personal that you know the recipient would enjoy. Maybe your paying for an activity for you both to share would also give you the opportunity to spend time getting to know each other better, ten pin bowling always worked for me. Good luck.
Reply:Bluebells!
Reply:I think the best thing is to take her out on a romantic dinner. Just the two of you. There you'll see if truly you two were meant to be.

Good luck.
Reply:something nice and casual, dont make it look like you put much thought into it because of parents and bf thinking sumthing, but get her a card, and flowers would be nice to, remember, they dont have to be huge, just a normal cute size you can give a girl. make it sweet
Reply:get domething modern and architectural, flowers youo've never heard hte names of before, in either all one colour or two that match
Reply:Buying flowers are probably a little bit too romantic when she already has a boyfriend. I think chocolates and perfume. Or you could take her out for dinner somewhere really nnice instead of a prezzie!
Reply:buy something she like....

maybe earring, and see if she wear it...
Reply:i think you should get her a nice box of chocolates and a pair of beutiful violates she would be pleased and there is nothing wrong with giving your friend some flowers

To do or not to do? .. bad idea or not?..?

my ex and i still talk and we're good friends even though we fight every so often because he gets frustrated wen i talk to another guy n whatever %26amp; he still has feelings for me as i do for him however he doesnt want a relationship... point is his mother and i got along very well and even still to this day, we'll talk on the phone for a bit i.e. if i were to call his home asking for him, she'll talk with me for five to ten minutes or so sometimes...anyways point is..tomorrow is her birthday and i was wondering if it is a bad idea to send her flowers..nothing big, jus something small to say happy b-day...i dont want him to get the wrong idea and i dont want him to get upset with me over the idea of it..just wanted to wish her a happy birthday n that i thought of her..

bad idea..or not?

should i send her the small arrangement of flowers or not?

To do or not to do? .. bad idea or not?..?
if u 2 get alogn then go for it

i thin its a great idea.

i give my ex's mum gifts for her birthday

hes fine with it
Reply:It's a good idea. You should send her the flowers. If your boyfriend gets upset about, tell him it's also for mother's day.
Reply:I'd send it, but only if he's getting her something too. Otherwise it may seem like you're trying to show him up.

You could also use Mother's Day as an excuse if the birthday thing is too weird.

Good luck.
